Loke slams Ramasamy's 'revenge politics' in KKB

KKB BY-ELECTION | DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke has slammed his former colleague P Ramasamy over the latter's "don't vote for Pakatan Harapan" campaign in Kuala Kubu Baharu.

More so because the former Penang deputy chief minister is campaigning against Harapan without providing an alternative for the people he is trying to convince, said Loke (above, right).

"Ramasamy is someone without a direction. He asks (voters) not to vote for Harapan, but then who else to vote for?

"You (reporters) ask him. He has not said who to vote for. So, what's his alternative? He doesn't have any; he's just politicking based on revenge," Loke told a press conference after campaigning for the government candidate Pang Sock Tao in Kuala Kubu Baharu this afternoon.

Recently, Ramasamy began groundwork in Kuala Kubu Baharu to encourage voters not to vote for Harapan.

This, the United for the Rights of Malaysians Party (Urimai) president said, was a way to teach a lesson to the federal government led by Harapan chairperson Anwar Ibrahim, who he alleged had failed to fulfil their promises to Malaysians.

“I am not here to canvass votes for any party. Instead, we are here to tell voters not to vote for Harapan.

“They (voters) can vote for either Perikatan Nasional, Parti Rakyat Malaysia, or the independent candidate. That is their choice, and we will not interfere,” he added.

Don’t be led astray

Elaborating, Loke claimed that Ramasamy was angry at DAP and Harapan for not being nominated to contest in the six state elections.

"We are campaigning to choose a representative in the state government. We are busy thinking about what the representative can do when elected, and what can be done to help the people.

"We don't think about boycotting this and that, so I think it is better we don't entertain people like him (Ramasamy) so much.

"He has no direction, and we will end up the same if we follow (his style). We will be lost too," he added.

'Harapan has failed Indians'

In response to Loke's criticism, Ramasamy this evening said Urimai was only asking voters to reject Harapan and DAP to teach the coalition a lesson.

Explaining his stance on the matter, he accused the government of having abandoned the Indian community especially those in the lower economic rung.

He also listed several incidents that had hurt the Indians, including the time when Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim used an offensive slur during a speech.

"Anwar, despite his songs and dances failed to live up to the promised expectations of the Indian community.

"Anwar had used the derogatory word "keling" on the Indians. He personally presided over the conversion of an Indian youth to Islam hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus.

"Anwar brushed aside the question of a young Indian student who wanted more places for Indians in the matriculation programme and admission to public universities,” Ramasamy said in a statement on Facebook.

"The Indian community is given financial pittance whereas the bumiputera are accorded billions," he added.

The former lecturer also criticised the Harapan-led government for not appointing a Tamil as a minister in Anwar's cabinet.

"Where was Loke when Indians were discriminated against in the country right under his nose?" Ramasamy asked. - Mkini
