‘Solar Boleh!’ programme to boost installations in homes

SHAH ALAM: The “Solar Boleh!” programme, under the energy transition and water transformation ministry, will encourage more people to install solar panels in their homes, says deputy prime minister Fadillah Yusof.

Fadillah, who is also the energy transition and water transformation minister, said his ministry is collaborating with the AEON Group, Bank Simpanan Nasional and SOLS Energy to carry out the programme, Bernama reported.

He said the programme, under the People’s Solar Transition Initiative (Solar@Petra Initiative), seeks to encourage broader participation in the national energy transition agenda, particularly by enhancing access to solar installation schemes and financing facilities for domestic users.

Through this public-private partnership, Fadillah said people can easily subscribe to solar installations at AEON branches nationwide.

“In the past, residential solar installations were typically done by those who could afford it because the cost was relatively high,” he said.

“But with the Solar Boleh! programme, we believe more people will respond to the call to support the energy transition agenda.”

Earlier, in his speech, Fadillah said the “Solar Boleh!” programme complements the solar rebate programme introduced in early April, called the Solar for Rakyat Incentive Scheme, which is currently being managed by Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB).

He also affirmed his ministry’s commitment to implement various strategies and initiatives to reduce the carbon footprint in the electricity supply sector.

This includes fostering closer collaboration with the private sector to advance the energy transition agenda.

“In addition to sustained commercial and utility-scale renewable energy generation, efforts are under way to increase solar generation capacity and boost solar photovoltaic system installations in the domestic segment,” he said.

“This can be achieved by leveraging rooftop spaces on building premises and residences for solar power generation,” he said.

Previously, Fadillah had said his ministry would work with the housing and local government ministry and TNB to ensure more people could join the solar installation programme for affordable housing. - FMT
