Party didn't reply queries over loyalty pledge, says Gua Musang MP

Gua Musang MP Azizi Abu Naim said that the seven Bersatu elected representatives who failed to sign a party loyalty pledge before the May 31 deadline were awaiting a response to their queries on the legitimacy of the notice issued.

Azizi (above), who is also Nenggiri state assemblyperson, told TV3's Buletin Utama last night that he was speaking on behalf of the group and they had asked the party to explain the notice but did not receive a reply.

The notice issued by Bersatu leadership contained instructions to uphold party loyalty and support its policies, as well as not to pledge allegiance to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s government.

Azizi said the group had requested an explanation over the composition of the special committee that would be scrutinising responses.

Apart from Azizi, the other Bersatu MPs who declared their support for Anwar are Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang); Zahari Kechik (Jeli); Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan) and Zulkafperi Hanafi (Tanjong Karang).

Meanwhile, Selat Klang assemblyperson Rashid Asari declared support for Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari.

Meanwhile, Suhaili told Malaysiakini in a brief text message: “I did not reply to their letter as I don't have to.”

On May 19, he mentioned that he would not be replying as his party membership had been revoked.

"I didn’t leave the party. All we wanted was allocations from the government for our constituencies. We never switched parties. We were only supporting the government of the day. How is this wrong?” he asked back then.

Bersatu to approach speaker

Yesterday, Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal said the party will inform Dewan Rakyat speaker Johari Abdul in this month’s sitting that the six MPs memberships have been terminated.

“Logically, we will write to the Dewan Rakyat speaker that they are stripped of their party memberships.

“It is written in the (party) constitution that they have to be stripped of their memberships (if they do not return a signed supreme council order as a pledge of their loyalty)

"It is just like Umno and DAP’s party constitution... Their membership will automatically be stripped,” he said. - Mkini
