KUALA LUMPUR: Economy minister Rafizi Ramli has clarified that the finance ministry’s Budi Madani programme is different from his ministry’s central database hub (Padu).
Rafizi said Padu contains household income information while Budi Madani focuses on disbursing assistance, like diesel cash subsidies, based on the individual recipient’s data.
“Padu focuses more on household data.
“We started Budi Madani with diesel subsidies to assist individuals as diesel usage is not as significant as RON95 petrol usage,” he told reporters after launching the Oil & Gas Services and Equipment survey here today.
He was asked to respond to concerns raised by some on the need for diesel vehicle owners to register with Budi Madani when they have submitted their information to Padu.
This comes after the finance ministry unveiled its diesel subsidy aid programme called Budi Madani last Monday. This will see RM200 given to eligible individuals as well as agriculture and commodity smallholders every month.
Launched on Jan 2, Padu is a national database system in Malaysia that contains profiles of citizens and permanent residents.
Rafizi said the Padu database would help improve management efficiency, facilitate targeted subsidy implementation, and ensure fair distribution of subsidies and services to those who need them most. - FMT
