Muslims console Sarawakian Chinese student ‘slapped’ for not fasting, remind him not to withdraw police report

MUSLIMS have poured in words of encouragement for Elijah – the 21-year-old Sarawakian undergraduate at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Skudai – in the centre of the moral policing gone awry after the latter thanked National Unity Minister Datuk Seri Aaron Ago Dagang for standing up for him.

Some even went as far as apologising for the unacceptable act of their brethren while re-assuring Elijah that Islam never teaches its followers to act in such rogue manner.

Backing him, they further prayed that Elijah would stay strong and refrain from withdrawing his police report “as the extremists ought to be taught a lesson”. In fact, they further pressure the authorities to put the culprit behind bars instead of letting him walk free with a fine.

Some went as far as encouraging him to file a civil suit for publicly humiliating him even though majority of the comments revolved on re-assuring Elijah that Islam is a religion of peace, not one which advocates violence.

One commenter rightly pointed the coincidence of provocative incidents by drawing comparison with the “Gangster Kajang ustaz” who punched till fractured the nose of an underage motorist last Friday (March 14).

Elsewhere, corporate and commercial lawyer Azira 🇲🇾 🌺(@ladymissazira) reminded the public that only authorised officers in the context of state syariah law are allowed to request the public for their identity cards (IC).

“The officers must introduce themselves, their officer serial number and show their authority card before requesting for one’s IC,” she shared on X.

As pro-Madani inference JOKER 🔺(@tjerealjoker) trolled the elderly robe-clad man by encouraging him to surrender as “he’s now Malaysia’s most wanted person”, the police have opened an investigation paper into the 3.45pm incident at the Family Mart in Angsana Mall, Johor Bahru.

With regard to the incident where Elijah was slapped twice on his right cheek, North Johor Bahru district police chief Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh said the case will be investigated under Section 323 of the Penal code whereby the suspect is liable for up to one-year jail or fined up to RM2,000 or both. – March 18, 2025
