The Penang government submitted a list of candidates for the post of Yang Dipertua Negeri (TYT) to the Prime Minister’s Office for the consideration of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar.
Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow confirmed the submission, which follows approval from the state executive council.
He noted that the term for the current TYT, or governor, ends on April 30 and any extension or new appointment will be at the discretion of His Majesty.
“If the term is not extended, a new appointment will be made in line with the state constitution,” he told a press conference at his office in Komtar today.
Chow urged for patience, noting that this is a matter for His Majesty and that any announcements would be made at the appropriate time.
Speculation has surrounded the potential replacement for Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak, who has held the post since May 2021.
Among the names being discussed is Ramli Ngah Talib, the former Perak menteri besar.
