PETALING JAYA
A male student at a higher education institution in Sungai Petani, Kedah, has been remanded for six days to aid an investigation into the stabbing of a female student yesterday.

Sungai Petani magistrate M Kalairasi issued the remand order for the 19-year-old suspect from today until March 23 to aid the investigation under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.

Harian Metro reported Kuala Muda police chief Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail as saying the suspect sustained injuries to his right arm, believed to be from the knife used in the incident.

He said the suspect is under police guard in a ward at Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital.

“A police investigation found that the 19-year-old victim sustained injuries from being stabbed in several places on her back and neck. She was reported to be in stable condition and conscious today.

“We have recorded a statement from the suspect,” he said.

Wan Azharuddin said police would also record a statement from the victim and several witnesses to complete their investigation.

It was reported yesterday that the suspect, believed to be the victim’s ex-boyfriend, had attacked her while she was on her way to the campus library as he was unhappy with her for breaking off their relationship. - FMT
