Cops nab Pamela Ling's husband to assist probe

Police this morning arrested the husband of Pamela Ling, who was abducted while on her way to facilitate an MACC investigation on April 9.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Isa confirmed the arrest.

“I confirm that we have arrested (the husband) in Kuala Lumpur early this morning.

“He was arrested to facilitate the investigation,” he told reporters.

Rusdi (above) said police have applied for a remand order against the man at Putrajaya court, but it was denied.

He also declined to elaborate on the reason why the remand application was rejected.

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain earlier said his team is investigating the possibility of Ling’s husband, Sarawakian businessperson Thomas Hah Tiing Siu, being involved in her abduction.

Hah was previously implicated in a “controversy” related to a land deal in Kudat, Sabah.

Judicial review application

On April 7, two days before her abduction near the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya, Ling is understood to have applied for a judicial review against the anti-graft agency and the Immigration Department director-general.

Based on Ling’s affidavit for the judicial review application, it was revealed that allegations of forged signatures and fraudulent halal food labelling were matters of dispute in the high-profile divorce battle between Ling and her estranged husband, who holds a Datuk Seri honorific.

Ling also alleged that Hah had manipulated the MACC as a tool to coerce her into settling their disputes, particularly regarding her accusation that he had fraudulently forged her signature on contentious documentation related to dubious share transfers.

Among other forms of relief, Ling petitioned for the return of two mobile phones confiscated by the MACC, a writ of mandamus compelling the immigration to allow her exit from Malaysia, and compensation totalling S$20,401.14 (RM67,700) and RM70,000 for incurred expenditures.

On May 2, Ling’s family revealed that the 42-year-old was on her way to meet MACC investigators on April 9, where she was supposed to facilitate a money laundering investigation, but was abducted before she could reach her destination.

Her Grab driver on that day claimed that individuals wearing police uniforms stopped his vehicle, forced Ling to exit and told him to mark the ride as "completed". - Mkini
