Sixteen police reports have been lodged over the controversial depiction of the Jalur Gemilang on the promotional poster for the upcoming “Himpunan Teguh Memimpin Terengganu (HTMT 1.0) 2025” event.
Terengganu police chief Khairi Khairudin confirmed the matter and said an investigation paper has been opened.
“A total of 16 reports have been lodged regarding the incident, with the first report made in Kuala Pilah. The case is being investigated by an officer from the Kuala Pilah district police headquarters.
“In Terengganu, there are only three reports related to this case,” he told Malaysiakini when contacted today.
Khairi (above) added that the case is being investigated under Section 4(1)(b) of the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, and Section 3(1)(c) of the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act (Amendment) 2017.
The official poster, produced by PAS Terengganu to promote the event scheduled from May 29 to 31 in Kemaman, featured the Jalur Gemilang on the left, the PAS logo in the centre, and the Terengganu flag on the right.

However, the logo triggered backlash online for featuring a yellow star with only 11 points and 12 red-and-white stripes - a deviation from the national flag, which comprises a 14-pointed star and 14 stripes to symbolise the 13 states and the federal territories.
PAS apologises for ‘unintentional mistake’
Following the public outcry, PAS Terengganu issued a public apology for the mistake.
Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported that PAS Terengganu had issued a written warning to the staff responsible for the error.
“We have already apologised for the unintentional mistake. Just like others, they only issued an apology.
“A written warning has been given (to the staff),” confirmed state PAS assistant secretary Hanafiah Mat.
The controversy comes on the heels of similar recent incidents involving distorted versions of the Malaysian flag.
These include a Sin Chew Daily illustration that omitted the crescent moon, and a Kwong Wah Yit Poh photo showing a Jalur Gemilang with a 13-pointed star, spotted in Bukit Bintang.
Critics from various quarters, including PAS’ own party wings, have condemned the incidents and urged for more serious consequences beyond mere apologies. - Mkini
