Audio clips implicating Malacca CM handed to cops

Former Senate deputy president Ali Mohamad has handed over audio recordings to the police that purportedly implicate Malacca Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh in a political conspiracy.

Ali was accompanied by lawyer Rafique Rashid Ali to hand over the recordings, along with a mobile phone, to the Classified Crimes Investigation Unit at the federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman.

The move came after two witnesses lodged police reports allegedly confirming that the voice in the recording belongs to Rauf (above).

“We have two devices - one is a voice recorder that we will hand over to the police because that is what they requested. The police needed it for forensic investigations,” Rafique told reporters at Bukit Aman today.

He added that a request was also made for witness protection for the two individuals who came forward to confirm the voice in the recording.

According to him, the police expressed readiness to provide protection for both witnesses.

The two individuals filed police reports on May 4 and 5, respectively, at the Batang Tiga police station in Malacca.

Previously, several audio clips circulated on social media, featuring a conversation between two individuals, with one referred to as “boss”.

In the first clip, the “boss” and an unidentified person are heard discussing a “report” to be made at a “balai” - believed to refer to a police station.

The second clip contains a discussion between the same “boss” and another individual regarding the status of a “report” that had been filed, along with a promise of a reward once the assigned task was completed.

On April 15, Ali - who was formerly the Tangga Batu Umno chief - was remanded by the MACC for alleged corruption.

Rauf later denied any involvement in Ali’s arrest and dismissed speculation linking him to the case as baseless.

Meanwhile, Ali expressed hope that the investigation into the matter would be conducted fairly and transparently following the submission of the requested evidence to the police. - Mkini
