PETALING JAYA:
A motorcyclist died after he crashed into a steel road barrier that had been ripped out by a Singaporean’s Maserati that allegedly made an illegal U-turn at Km0.6 of the Second Link Expressway in Johor yesterday.

Iskandar Puteri police chief M Kumarasan said the motorcyclist was confirmed dead at the scene from severe injuries to his head and left leg in the 7pm incident.

Sinar Harian reported Kumarasan as saying that according to a preliminary investigation, the driver crashed into the barrier, ripping it out, and placing his car in the way of oncoming traffic.

He said the motorcyclist, who was travelling from the other direction, was unable to avoid the barrier and was flung to the shoulder of the road.

The motorcycle’s storage box was also thrown onto the road and was run over by two other motorcyclists, who were not hurt.

Kumarasan said passing motorcyclists tried to attack the driver with their helmets.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving, and Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means. - FMT
