Rich Malaysian syndrome? BMW owner refuses to pay towing charges after services rendered

OWNING a luxury vehicle is no guarantee of a healthy bank balance or even class for that matter.

This was the experience encountered by tow trucker Zak Dragon who berated a BMW owner for backing out of payment after the vehicle had been towed to the owner’s abode.

Sharing his ordeal on Facebook, the poster who operates his service around Putrajaya, Cyberjaya, Seri Kembangan, Kajang, Bangi and Cheras labelled the ungracious motorist as scum for blocking his phone number when attempts were made to claim payment for services rendered.

“Who knows the owner of the car? He ordered our towing service to the front of his house but he finally cancelled it (upon reaching his doorstep),” lamented Zak Dragon in a Facebook post.

“By right, the owner should have the courtesy to pay our petrol money but instead he just blocked our phone number … such a despicable human being.”

The post has already generated 6.5K likes, 1.3K comments and 188 shares at the time of writing, denoting the empathy many commenters had for the poster’s predicament.

Needless to say, the marque was highlighted with some commenters asking how one could stoop so low by refusing to pay for services already rendered.

Highlighting that this was NOT a new phenomenon, one commenter shared a similar experience. He claimed to be a victim of a Mercedes Benz owner in Kelana Jaya who refused to even fork out a minimal petrol fee.

Another counselled that the tow truck operator should have demanded for at least 50% payment upfront to at least cover his petrol costs.

One commenter contended that this type of “customers” would reap plenty of bad karma due to their misdeeds. “Today, it may just be a flat tyre, the next they may be run over by a lorry,” it was surmised.

It was also observed that such people who have no qualms making life difficult for others would never change.

There were potential solutions to the problem. One commenter advised the tow truck service providers to leave the car parked indiscriminately or obstructing the front of his house, not neatly in front of the residence.

Another cheekily suggested that the car be sent to his house as it made for great scrap metal while one suggested to tow to the police station to find settlement there.

All said and done, if agreement had been reached for services rendered, just pay up. It is the decent, never mind honest, thing to do.

Last thing a motorist will want to so is to pick a fight with tow truck operators. That almost never ends well – not to mention the public embarrassment when the ordeal goes viral.
