BAGAN DATUK: Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has called on MIC to provide a written explanation after its deputy youth chief attended Bersatu Armada's annual general meeting yesterday.
The Deputy Prime Minister said the matter would be referred to MIC's leadership to determine whether disciplinary action should be taken in line with the party's constitution.
"We will leave it to MIC's leadership to decide on disciplinary measures according to its party rules.
"However, the BN secretary-general will also ask MIC to submit a written explanation on why a representative was sent, when Bersatu is not a BN component party but part of the opposition," he said.
Zahid told reporters after launching Kemas Village Motivation Programme and Bakti Madani Universiti Teknologi Mara at Masjid Tuminah Hamidi here, today.
Also present were Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir and Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.
Zahid said that the presence of the MIC representative was inappropriate and sent the wrong signal.
"This is not a good manifestation. No representative from any BN component party should attend meetings organised by parties outside of the Madani government, whether in a personal or official capacity," he said.
Yesterday, it was reported that MIC deputy youth chief K. Kesavan was among those who attended the Bersatu Youth wing's annual general meeting.
"I came upon invitation, but the decision will be made by the top leadership," he said when asked about his attendance and whether MIC might consider joining Perikatan Nasional (PN).
PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali later confirmed that the coalition had held informal discussions with MCA and MIC, both of which are components of the ruling BN. - NST
