6.3 quake jolts Indonesia's East Nusa Tenggara, no tsunami risk

 

JAKARTA: A 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck Indonesia's East Nusa Tenggara province early Monday (Oct 27), with no tsunami potential, according to the country's Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), as reported by Xinhua.

The quake occurred at 4.28am Jakarta time (5.28am Malaysian time), with the epicentre located 82km north-west of North Central Timor Regency, at a depth of 75km, BMKG said on its website.

The coordinates of the epicentre were recorded at latitude 9.06° south and longitude 123.97° east.

"The tremors were felt by residents here but did not trigger panic," said Gasper Losa Manisa, the head of the emergency unit at the East Nusa Tenggara Disaster Management Agency.

"So far, there have been no reports of damage or casualties.
