
A LORRY driver who made headlines after burning his own vehicle to stop it from being seized by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) has been fined RM3,500 by the Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
The 31-year-old, Mohamad Aimullah Che Ambok, admitted to the charge when it was read before Magistrate Noor Mazrinie Mahmood.
Based on the charge sheet, he was accused of deliberately obstructing a JPJ officer from performing official duties near Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Padang Air, Jalan Tepoh, Kuala Nerus, at around 1.30pm on 22 October.
The offence falls under Section 186 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to two years in prison, a fine not exceeding RM10,000, or both, if found guilty.
The court imposed a RM3,500 fine, with an alternative sentence of five months’ imprisonment should he fail to pay.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Anith Nabilah Rusli led the prosecution, while Abdul Hayyi Salim represented the accused.
The incident, which occurred on 22 October, drew public attention after media reports revealed that the man had torched his own lorry when JPJ officers ordered it to be seized during an enforcement operation in Kuala Nerus. — Focus Malaysia
