PETALING JAYA:
There will be no lockdown, only an enhanced security deployment in central Kuala Lumpur, when the Asean summit meeting is held on Aug 26-28, a senior police official said today.

Fisol Salleh, a deputy director at Bukit Aman, urged the public, especially motorists, to fully cooperate with the police throughout the security control operation period.

“Traffic police will provide updates from time to time. This is not a total lockdown, but an enhanced security deployment. I urge all road users to give their full cooperation,” he said.

Fisol said more than 10,000 police personnel are involved and will begin their duties at their locations within the next day or two.

He said international leaders and delegations scheduled to attend the summit, will be placed at 24 hotels around the capital.

The Asean summit is scheduled to be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre with the participation of all 10 leaders of Asean member states along with dialogue partners and guests from the US, China, Japan and India. - FMT
