Sanusi chides MCMC for failing to curb online porn while swift to muzzle social media

KEDAH Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has urged the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to take immediate action to block pornographic and immoral content on the internet, describing it as a key factor in the moral decline of today’s youth.

He questioned the commission’s priorities, claiming it acts “faster in blocking political content than pornographic material that is clearly destroying society”.

Commenting on a recent sexual crime case in Baling, Sanusi said uncontrolled exposure to external influences through digital devices was among the main causes.

“MCMC can control all this. Take immediate action, block all materials that can promote deviant cultures that are not suitable for Eastern society,” he said.

“Why are pornographic sites allowed, but political content can be blocked? This is because they do not want to do their job,” he stressed at a press conference after the Deepavali Hamper Presentation Ceremony at Wisma Darul Aman yesterday (Oct 17).

The Jeneri assemblyman said preventive measures should take precedence, as dealing with social problems after they occur is far more complicated.

“The country has authority, media, and internet agencies that can regulate. Don’t liberalise everything; our society is not ready to self-filter,” he added.

Sanusi also called for renewed emphasis on moral and religious values in education, including physical education, to strengthen students’ faith. He reiterated his earlier stance that punishment remains a vital tool in education.

“Educating requires both rewards and punishment, not just rewards,” he said. —  Focus Malaysia
