School stabbing: Cops say suspect never expressed feelings to victim

The suspect in the stabbing of a 16-year-old female student at a school in Petaling Jaya yesterday did not express his romantic feelings toward the victim, according to Selangor police chief Shazeli Kahar.

He said that based on current investigations, police believe the suspect had feelings for the deceased but never shared them with her.

“This was more of a case of suppressed feelings,” he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.

When asked if the victim knew the 14-year-old suspect, Shazeli said both teenagers were from different classes and age groups, so they are believed not to have interacted with each other.

Yesterday, media reports stated that unrequited love was among the angles being investigated in the stabbing case.

Petaling Jaya district police chief Shamsudin Mamat said claims of such a motive had circulated online.

“The matter is one of the angles being investigated, but it needs further verification.

“The investigation is still ongoing and being carried out thoroughly. However, all information must first be carefully examined,” he added.

Weapons purchased online

Shazeli said the suspect had purchased the weapons - three knives - including a kerambit, which is a knife resembling a claw, online.

He also said that social media influence and emotional triggers are possible factors behind the suspect’s attack.

“We are still investigating which social media platforms the suspect accessed to facilitate our investigations,” Bernama reported him as saying.

Shazeli added that so far, the police recorded statements from 57 individuals, including teachers, students, family members of the victim and suspect, as well as school counsellors.

The suspect, who was brought to the Petaling Jaya Magistrate’s Court this morning, has been remanded until Oct 21 to facilitate investigations into the murder.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the ministry has formed a special committee to investigate the stabbing.

She added that a team of counsellors had been mobilised to provide psychosocial support to the entire school community. - Mkini
