KLANG: A video showing a lorry ablaze, followed by a loud explosion, has gone viral.

Traffic came to a standstill as the truck caught fire on a bridge, with thick black smoke billowing from the blaze. The explosion captured in the footage is believed to have been caused by one of the truck's tyres igniting.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the incident occurred early yesterday morning at the Sungai Dua bridge along Jalan Pelabuhan Utara.

"We received a distress call at 10.36am. Six personnel and a fire engine were dispatched to the scene," he said.

Ahmad Mukhlis added that the team arrived shortly after and managed to bring the fire under control by 10.51am.

"The blaze involved a container truck carrying steel. The vehicle was almost completely destroyed, but fortunately, no one was injured," he said. - NST
