SHAH ALAM: A woman trapped in the collapsed building of the Sijangkang state assembly coordinator's office was rescued following a storm that hit parts of the Kuala Langat district today.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the 51-year-old woman was successfully rescued but sustained injuries to her waist and thigh.
He said the department received an emergency call at about 4.24pm reporting a building collapse at Dewan Wawasan Kampung Medan, Telok Panglima Garang.
"The operations commander reported that the incident involved the collapse of an 800-square-foot building, where a 51-year-old woman was trapped under the debris.
"The victim was conscious and was successfully extricated at 5.05pm.
"She was handed over to Health Ministry medical officers at the scene.
"The collapse also affected a nearby surau KAFA measuring about 3,000 square feet, where between seven and nine pelajar KAFA sustained minor injuries.
"All victims were treated by medical personnel at the scene," he said.
Earlier, videos and images of a storm and a 'tornado-like storm' that struck a primary school in Banting, Kuala Langat, went viral on social media.
Several clips and photos showed severe damage to the school, including one 40-second video believed to have been recorded by school staff, showing debris and roofing sheets swirling in the air.
Another video showed part of the school's roof collapsing, causing panic among staff members.
Other footage showed debris scattered across the road and fallen trees believed to be near the affected school. - NST
