KUALA LUMPUR:
The appointments of state Perikatan Nasional chiefs, including in the five states that currently have no leaders, have been postponed until after the Aidilfitri celebrations, says PN chairman Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.

Samsuri said the appointments will be put off until the next coalition meeting, scheduled to be held after he completes his working visit to all the states after Aidilfitri.

He said this after the PN Supreme Council meeting at the Gerakan headquarters here today.

The PN chapters in Selangor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Perak and Johor do not have leaders following the incumbents’ resignations.

Bersatu’s Azmin Ali (Selangor), Ahmad Faizal Azumu (Perak), Dr Sahruddin Jamal (Johor) and Hanifah Abu Baker (Negeri Sembilan) resigned, following in the footsteps of their president Muhyiddin Yassin, who vacated the position of PN chairman effective Jan 1.

All four leaders decided to resign as their appointments were made by Muhyiddin.

Masjid Tanah MP Mas Ermieyati Samsudin resigned as Melaka PN chief to allow for a restructuring of the coalition’s leadership at the state level.

The Wanita Bersatu chief is currently under suspension following an internal party crisis that led to the sacking of former deputy president Hamzah Zainudin last month.

Last October, PN announced several changes to the state PN chiefs, which saw Bersatu’s Indera Mahkota MP Saifuddin Abdullah being replaced with PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man in Pahang.

Former Perlis menteri besar Shukri Ramli of PAS was replaced by party colleague, Arau MP Shahidan Kassim as Perlis PN chief. - FMT
