SHAH ALAM: Individuals blacklisted for fines under the Automated Awareness Safety System (Awas) will be able to deactivate their status through the MyJPJ application starting March 18.
Road Transport Department (JPJ) director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the move was aimed at easing the process for road users to settle summonses, allowing them to renew their Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM) without visiting a JPJ counter.
Motorists issued an Awas summons can now pay directly through the MyJPJ app.
"However, no discounts are offered for old summonses. Only AWAS summonses issued this year are eligible for discounts of RM150, RM200 or RM300, depending on the payment period," he told reporters at the Ops Hari Raya Aidilfitri and SLD (Speed Limitation Device) here yesterday.
Aedy Fadly added that payments via MyJPJ did not cover Notice of Summons (114) or summonses that could not be compounded, as these cases must be resolved in court.
Those who receive a Notice to Attend must still visit the relevant JPJ office to complete investigations into their traffic offences.
"If they fail to attend, their status will remain blacklisted, and they will still need to come to JPJ to resolve the matter," he said.
Meanwhile, in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Aedy Fadly said his team would enforce the Heavy Vehicle Road Ban as announced by Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
The ban will be in effect for four days — March 19 to 20 and March 28 to 29 — to ensure smoother traffic flow on highways and main roads nationwide. - NST
