Cikgu Chandra claims he was threatened, ex-MIC man says he only gave 'advice'

Social media influencer S Chandrasegaran - also known as Cikgu Chandra - lodged a police report after claiming he was threatened by a man in front of his house early this morning.

He said the incident occurred around 8.15am and lasted for about 30 minutes in front of his residence in Puchong, Selangor.

In the police report sighted by Malaysiakini, he said a man known as Awtar Singh arrived in a red four-wheel-drive vehicle before stopping near his house.

Chandrasegaran alleged the man lowered his car window and called out to him before uttering words he described as threats while pointing a finger at him.

He also claimed the man remained in the area for about half an hour and recorded a video using a mobile phone before being ordered by police to leave.

“My purpose in making the report is to protect the safety of myself and my family because I am afraid that something untoward might happen,” he said in the report.

Previously, Chandrasegaran claimed the man came to the front of his house and tried to provoke him despite the presence of police officers.

“Awtar came to the front of my house and threatened me. The police were also there. It is too much,” he said when contacted.

According to Chandrasegaran, the situation remained under control as there were about 15 security personnel in the area of his house for protection purposes.

The incident occurred a few days after three vehicles belonging to Chandrasegaran were set on fire.

Bothering neighbours, authorities

Meanwhile, Awtar, who is a former Selangor MIC chairperson, denied allegations that he had provoked Chandrasegaran.

Instead, he said his presence in the area was to record a video after being informed that about 20 police officers were stationed in front of Chandrasegaran’s house.

“That happened in front of the police. The police can confirm whether it was a provocation or not,” he told Malaysiakini.

Vehicle belonging to Chandrasegaran on fire

Awtar said he also previously uploaded a video on TikTok questioning the presence of police officers in front of Chandrasegaran’s house.

“In the video, I said he (Chandrasegaran) was shouting and asking where the police were, where the Home Ministry was, after his house was broken into and his car set on fire at night.

“So I made a TikTok and asked him: ‘Who are you that the police have to give you protection? Are you the father of Malaysian independence, a former prime minister, or the opposition leader?

“I was also told by a friend that about 20 police officers were in front of his house,” he said.

According to Awtar, upon arriving at the location, he saw Chandrasegaran standing outside the house with police officers before addressing him from inside the car.

“I lowered the car window and said, ‘Chandra, watch your mouth. Now you are bothering the neighbours and also the police officers here.’

“That’s all I said,” he said.

According to Awtar, after that remark, Chandrasegaran started shouting and claiming he was being threatened.

However, Awtar claimed that Chandrasegaran himself was the one shouting that he was being threatened.

“I asked him: ‘Do you understand the Malay language? What is a threat and what is advice?’,” he said.

Angering Hindus

Awtar stressed that his actions were merely to give advice regarding Chandrasegaran’s statements, which he claimed had angered the public, especially Indian Malaysians.

“I gave him advice because he was disturbing and annoying the neighbours until his car was burnt, because his mouth won’t stop.

“He issued statements that hurt the feelings of the public, Hindus, and Indians.

“He doesn’t stop, and he still calls (Indians) botol kicap (soy sauce bottle) in his TikTok videos.

“What Hindus and Indians are very angry about with him is the temple case in Rawang that was demolished previously; he went there holding a sledgehammer and broke another pillar,” he said.

On March 10, Malaysiakini reported that three of Chandrasegaran’s cars were set on fire in an early morning incident at his home.

A day before that, he uploaded a video claiming his house gate and car were damaged by masked individuals armed with machetes. - Mkini
