The Election Commission urges the public to avoid sharing misleading content.

PETALING JAYA: The Election Commission has denied claims circulating on social media that the 16th general election will be held on Oct 24.
“This is misinformation. Avoid sharing content that is misleading, has unclear sources, or uses manipulated images,” it said in a posting on X today.
The EC was responding to viral posts suggesting that nominations would be held on Oct 10 and polling on Oct 24.
The posts also claimed that the EC’s draft timeline for GE16 had been released in early 2026 and urged the public to wait for the dissolution of Parliament and state assemblies.
They also claimed that the latest possible date for the elections would be March 2027.
However, GE16 must be held by February 2028, with the current Dewan Rakyat now in its third year. - FMT
