Farhash serves letter of demand to CNA over alleged PMX’s role in NexG

FORMER  political aide to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak, has issued a letter of demand to Channel News Asia (CNA) over its report alleging his attempt to “take control” of NexG Bhd, a company with billions in government contracts.

The CNA article claimed Anwar ordered Farhash to cease efforts, paving the way for businessman Ishak Ismail to lead NexG.

It also linked Farhash indirectly through his 20% stake in MMAG Holdings, which owns 10% of NexG. Farhash strongly denied the claims, saying they were “not true”.

His lawyers demanded CNA retract the article and halt dissemination, stressing he had received no directive from Anwar.

The letter warned that failure to comply within two days could result in legal action.

The controversy follows the mass resignation of six NexG board members allegedly aligned with Farhash, raising questions about corporate and political dynamics.

NexG began as Datasonic Group, incorporated in 2008 by Abu Hanifah and listed on Bursa Malaysia in 2012. The company was central to Malaysia’s border-security systems, supplying smart ID cards, passport chips and high-security personalisation solutions. After several shareholding changes, it was rebranded as NexG in February 2025.

Since then, NexG has been linked to complex crossholdings involving corporate figure Victor Chin Boon Long, whose businesses span logistics and fintech. Chin brought Farhash into his network when Farhash acquired a stake in MMAG Holdings, a logistics firm in which NexG owns 10%.

MMAG has drawn attention, particularly after Chin resigned from NexG in November 2025. —  Focus Malaysia
