Opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin says the impact of higher fuel prices on Malaysians has to be addressed in the Dewan Rakyat.

He said yesterday’s hike in the price of diesel would have a chain effect, especially on transportation costs, which in turn would drive up the cost of goods.
The Larut MP said while the public was aware that global oil prices had spiked due to the conflict in the Middle East, the impact of higher fuel prices on Malaysians needed to be addressed in the Dewan Rakyat.
“The government must have a clear, comprehensive, and effective mitigation plan,” he said in a statement.
“Table it immediately in Parliament so that the public can better prepare for the economic impact of the ongoing Gulf conflict.”
This comes on the back of another 80 sen increase on March 12, when the price of diesel in West Malaysia increased from RM3.12 to RM3.92.
The increase from RM3.12 to RM4.72 amounts to a 51% spike.
The ministry said although Malaysia is an oil-producing country, petroleum products for domestic use are still obtained through the global market. - FMT
