The former Umno vice-president says he never left the party and urges the leadership to withdraw his suspension if it's sincere about welcoming back former members.

In a Facebook video, Hishammuddin said “returning” to Umno would not be difficult for him as he had never left the party despite being suspended in 2023.
Referring to Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s remarks about opening the party’s doors to former members, the Sembrong MP said he appreciated the sentiment expressed by the leadership.
“I am thankful for what the president said regarding the party leadership’s decision to unconditionally accept those who were sacked, suspended or who left the party.
“The thing is, I never left the party. The issue is my current status as an Umno member, since the Supreme Council previously decided to suspend me.
“If the party’s top leadership is truly sincere in its stand and withdraws my suspension, I will immediately return to continue fighting in Umno,” said the former minister.
Last Friday, Zahid said the party’s doors were “unconditionally” open to former members, adding that “all past mistakes and differences will be forgiven” in the spirit of Ramadan.
Umno vice-president Khaled Nordin has been tasked with chairing a task force to coordinate the re-entry process of former members as part of Zahid’s “Rumah Bangsa” initiative.
In January 2023, Hishammuddin and former Umno information chief Shahril Hamdan each received a six-year suspension, while former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin was sacked. None of them filed an appeal.
Khairy, a former minister, has expressed interest in taking up Zahid’s offer to return to Umno. - FMT
