MELAKA: Police have arrested a 22-year-old delivery rider for allegedly assaulting his wife and running over her head with a motorcycle in Kota Shahbandar.
Melaka Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit said the suspect was arrested at a house in Taman Seri Kemendor, Jasin, this morning.
Initial investigations revealed the suspect has a criminal record for four offences, including two drug-related cases.
"The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for causing hurt and Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act," Christopher said in a statement.
The offence carries a jail term of up to one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
Police urged those with information to contact the Melaka Tengah district police headquarters or the nearest police station to assist in the investigation.
The arrest follows a viral video showing a man in a helmet repeatedly punching and slapping a woman until she fell to the ground.
Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar previously said a report was lodged by the victim's 51-year-old mother on Monday after the footage began circulating on social media. - NST
