Chairman Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar says the matter was agreed upon at the PN Supreme Council meeting today, which focused on appointments to fill the vacancies in the leadership.

Samsuri said the matter was agreed upon at the PN Supreme Council meeting today, which focused on appointments to fill the vacancies in the leadership.
“Once we have a decision on the new opposition leader, we will inform the speaker of the Dewan Rakyat. As for now, it is still Hamzah (Zainudin),” he told a press conference after the meeting, held at the Gerakan headquarters in Menara PGRM, Cheras.
Hamzah’s position as opposition leader has been in limbo since his expulsion from Bersatu on Feb 13, at the height of an internal leadership tussle with party president Muhyiddin Yassin.
Samsuri also announced the appointment of Takiyuddin Hassan as PN secretary-general. He replaces Azmin Ali, who resigned effective Jan 1, the same day Muhyiddin Yassin stepped down as the coalition’s chairman.
PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man was named deputy chairman, replacing Abdul Hadi Awang, who is the party’s president.
Last month, it was announced that Hadi had decided to step down from the PN Supreme Council, but will remain in the PN Presidential Council.
Another senior PAS leader, Annuar Musa, has been made PN information chief, while Bersatu vice-president Radzi Jidin has been appointed the coalition’s election director, taking over from PAS’s Sanusi Nor.
Sanusi, the Kedah menteri besar, will fill the post of PN treasurer-general, while Bersatu acting Wanita chief, Nolee Ashilin Radzi, takes over from Mas Ermieyati Samsudin as PN Wanita chief.
The post of treasurer-general has been vacant since Samsuri resigned from the position on Dec 11, 2024.
Mas Ermieyati was suspended by Bersatu, along with vice-president Ronald Kiandee, for violating the party’s constitution and code of conduct.
Zaidy Abdul Talib, a former Selangor executive councillor from PAS, has been named PN’s executive secretary, taking over from Saiful Adli Arshad, a former political secretary to Muhyiddin when he was prime minister.
Samsuri also said the appointment of new chairmen for PN state chapters has been postponed to the next meeting, pending his visit to all states after Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Last month, FMT reported that PN would hold a Supreme Council meeting on March 14 amid disagreements over the post of opposition leader and claims of a new political party allegedly linked to Hamzah. - FMT
