MELAKA: A school in Cheng here where a female Year Six pupil is said to have been sexually abused has handed over CCTV footage of the day of the incident to police and increasing security measures.
The school's Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) chairman Denis Lee Han Lim said the school took measures to locate the girl when she went missing on Thursday (Feb 25).
This included doing a search, making announcements on the school's public address system and alerting authorities.
"The school alerted the police, the Melaka Tengah Education office, the chairman of the school's board of directors and me," said Lee.
He said the school also disseminated missing-person information on social media platforms to assist in the search.
Lee said relevant CCTV footage had been handed over to the police.
"We leave it to the police to investigate," he said.
Lee said the PTA since had instructed the school to immediately strengthen security measures, including recording all entries and exits from the school compound.
"We will also increase the number of CCTV cameras in the school," he said.
Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar confirmed the incident and said the case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017. - Star
