Food waste is a major problem, with Malaysians reportedly producing over 17,300 tonnes of it a day, and the figure tends to rise during Ramadan.
However, with the help of volunteers, some surplus food is now distributed to vulnerable communities, as well as residents of low-cost housing and shelter homes.
KiniTV visited several areas, starting from a bazaar at Kampung Baru in Kuala Lumpur to find out what happens to unsold food, how it is prepared for donation and what the public can do to help cut down food waste.
