Two lorry drivers and an attendant plead not guilty to fighting inside the station on Monday night.
Lorry drivers A Magendran, 44, and B Kalairasan, 38, and attendant P Gopinath, 39, entered their pleas after the charges were read to them separately before magistrate Nor Azilah Mat.
They were charged with behaving in a disorderly manner by fighting inside a police station, an offence under Section 90 of the Police Act 1967, which provides for a fine of up to RM500, a maximum six months’ imprisonment, or both, upon conviction.
They also face separate charges of causing injury to a 29-year-old man using a helmet and an iron bar, an offence under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine, whipping or any two of these punishments, if convicted.
Kalairasan faces another charge of committing mischief by damaging a TV set at the police station, framed under Section 427 of the Penal Code, which provides for a prison sentence of up to five years, a fine, or both.
Gopinath is also charged with issuing criminal threats against a 24-year-old man under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
All the offences were allegedly committed at the police station at 9.47pm on Monday.
The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutors Salman Alfarisi Nawawi and Ahmad Sulfie Abu Hassan, while the three accused were represented by lawyer A Biranta.
The court set bail at RM13,000 each for Kalairasan and Gopinath, while Magendran was granted bail of RM9,000.
They were also ordered to report to the nearest police station once a month.
The court fixed May 25 for mention. - FMT
