2 Melaka food makers ordered to recall products after halal certs revoked

 Two food manufacturers in Melaka have been ordered to recall all previously distributed products following the revocation of their halal certification.

According to a Bernama report, the affected companies are Heng Loong Coffee Sdn Bhd in Taman Tanjung Minyak and Tian Hup Seng Biscuits Factory Sdn Bhd in Taman Telok Mas.

State education, higher education and religious affairs committee chairman Rahmad Mariman said the companies must also perform the “sertu” (ritual cleansing) process under Islamic law and established guidelines before reapplying for certification.

“This matter requires further action due to the need to ensure that all equipment is free from ‘haram’ (prohibited) or ‘syubhah’ (doubtful) elements, including implications involving contamination by ‘najis mughallazah’ (severe impurities).

“Even now, they are not allowed to display the halal logo on their premises. If they violate this directive, action can be taken in collaboration with the domestic trade and cost of living ministry, including not only notices but also fines,” he told reporters at Masjid Al-Alami last night.

Rahmad said the revocation followed routine enforcement by the Melaka Islamic Religious Department (Jaim), and urged all industry players to carefully monitor production chains to protect halal integrity.

Earlier this week, an unnamed coffee and biscuit factory in Melaka had its halal certificate revoked after a Jaim inspection in January found that it was using brushes with bristles believed to be made from pig hair to clean equipment.

The brushes were seized and sent to the Malaysian Halal Analysis Centre in Bandar Enstek, Nilai, where tests last month confirmed the presence of pig bristles. - FMT
