Anwar declines to comment on Rafizi, says economy bigger priority

PKR president Anwar Ibrahim has declined to comment on a challenge from his former deputy, Rafizi Ramli, for the party to sack him if his actions are found to have violated its constitution.

The latest challenge was issued by the Pandan MP today after he received a fresh show-cause letter from PKR.

However, Anwar said that as prime minister, his priority is to resolve the country’s economic problems amid a challenging situation.

“Never mind, the country’s economic issues are more serious than personal problems,” Anwar said when asked to comment on Rafizi’s statement.

He was speaking to reporters after performing Friday prayers at Masjid Nurussaadah in Cheras Baru, Ampang, today.

Earlier, in a social media post today, Rafizi shared his response to an April 9 letter from PKR’s disciplinary board, which outlined several alleged breaches that tarnished the party’s name.

In his reply, Rafizi urged the board to make a firm and swift decision on his fate in the party, while reminding that the public is “already fed up”.

“If my explanation is deemed to have violated the party constitution, then act like a normal (and not deviant) party by taking action to expel me, as has been done to other party members facing disciplinary charges before,” said the Pandan MP.

In February, Rafizi claimed PKR was trying to pressure him to leave the party so that he could be removed as an MP under the anti-hopping law.

This came after PKR issued a show-cause letter accusing him of declaring his resignation from the party when he announced plans to contest in the next general election independently from the PKR ticket.

The latest show-cause letter from disciplinary board chairperson Zainol Samah to Rafizi stated that he had frequently made negative statements against the party and Anwar as its president. - Mkini
