A military officer has been arrested after allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and crashing into an e-hailing MPV, a collision that left one person dead on the MEX Highway from Salak Selatan towards Jalan Tun Razak early this morning.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Zamzuri Isa said the 31-year-old officer was driving a Ford Fiesta, which is believed to have crossed into the opposite lane before colliding head-on with the MPV.
“The MPV was carrying two Bangladeshi passengers, a 22-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman, who had just arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport,” he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.
Following the impact, the male passenger seated in the middle row died at the scene from severe head injuries. The other passenger sustained bodily injuries and is receiving treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
The e-hailing driver suffered head injuries, while the military officer sustained minor injuries. A 36-year-old local woman, who was also in the Ford Fiesta, was injured and is being treated at the same hospital.

Zamzuri said a breathalyser test conducted on the Ford Fiesta driver showed alcohol levels above the legal limit, while a urine test returned negative for drugs.
The driver has since been arrested, and the case is being investigated under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Amendment 2020) for driving under the influence of alcohol and causing death.
Members of the public with information are urged to contact the Jalan Tun HS Lee Traffic Police Station at 03-2071 9999 or any nearby police station to assist in investigations. - Mkini
