KUALA LUMPUR:
The government has set up a communications command centre to deliver official updates on its response to the global energy crisis and geopolitical developments following the conflict in the Middle East.

Communications minister Fahmi Fadzil said the centre’s establishment was approved in a Cabinet meeting today and will operate under the National Economic Action Council, chaired by deputy prime minister Fadillah Yusof.

As a start, press conferences will be held daily at 4pm starting tomorrow, led by Fadillah.

“This is to align all aspects of government communication, primarily regarding the government and agencies’ response to the global energy crisis and conflict in the Middle East,” Fahmi told reporters at Angkasapuri here today.

The government spokesman said this is part of a more aggressive approach by Putrajaya to ensure the information received by the public is accurate, clear and orderly.

He also said the Cabinet decided that finance minister II Amir Hamzah Azizan and economy minister Akmal Nasrullah Nasir will meet with the special select committees on finance and economy soon.

“This is to inform them of the government’s views and efforts so far regarding economic and financial issues arising from the conflict,” he said.

WFH being fine-tuned

Fahmi said the government is in the final stages of fine-tuning a work-from-home (WFH) policy, as part of efforts to institutionalise flexible working arrangements similar to those during the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said chief secretary Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar will make an official announcement on WFH arrangements, which will be implemented in stages.

Fahmi said Shamsul has also been tasked with reviewing business licence application processes, particularly for sectors affected by the global energy crisis.

He said Shamsul will propose to the Cabinet efforts to reduce the red tape involved. “These processes need to be reassessed, streamlined and simplified,” he said. - FMT
