Higher TNB bill in April for households paying more than RM215.98

Peninsula households using more than 600kWh per month (bills higher than RM215.98) can expect to pay more for electricity this month.

Tenaga Nasional Berhad’s (TNB) rebates from its Automatic Fuel Adjustment (AFA) system will be reduced from RM0.0215 per kWh to RM0.0047 per kWh.

An example illustrated by TNB is that a household using 800kWH would be paying RM329.68 for their April 1 to 30 bill, after factoring in a RM3.76 rebate.

For comparison, the same household would have received a rebate of RM17.20 in March, with the bill totalling RM316.24.

The AFA system calculates the cost of fuel needed to generate electricity based on market prices and foreign exchange rates, and is updated monthly.

The rebate reduction comes amid global supply chain issues caused by the Iran war led to an increase in the price of coal and natural gas - both of which Malaysia imports a significant amount for electricity generation.

TNB forecasts that AFA costs will continue to fluctuate in the coming months, with a lower rebate in May at RM0.039 per kWh, before increasing to RM0.091 in June.

However, in July, the rate is forecast to turn into a surcharge of RM0.0008 (or 0.08 sen). - Mkini
