KUALA LUMPUR: A holiday in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, for Mohd Jamri Herry and his wife turned into a nightmare after the latter suffered a seizure and fell into a coma.
Rohana Joseph, 34, is currently unconscious in the intensive care unit (ICU) of Nhan Dan Gia Dinh Hospital.
Mohd Jamri, 40, from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, said his wife suffered the seizure around 4am last Tuesday—just hours before they were scheduled to fly back to Malaysia.
"My wife and I were in Vietnam for a holiday from April 16 to 21. It was originally a trip for her and her friends, but she asked me to come along," he told Harian Metro.
"Throughout the holiday, she was healthy and showed no signs of illness. However, she had a seizure on the day we were supposed to return.
"We were meant to leave for the airport at 8am for a 1pm flight, but we couldn't leave because she was rushed to the hospital."
Mohd Jamri, who works for the Sabah Sports Council, said that while his wife is currently stable, she remains unconscious.
He is now desperate to bring her back to Malaysia due to mounting medical costs.
"I don't have the final hospital bill yet, but I know it will be high because she is a foreigner. I have already exhausted my savings," he said, adding that he is only allowed to visit her for one hour a day.
The couple's two children, aged four and seven, are currently being cared for by family members in Sabah.
Mohd Jamri said that the hospital has no objections to her being moved, provided he accepts the medical risks involved in the transfer.
"I am prepared for any possibility, as long as she is brought home to continue her treatment in Malaysia. I ask the public to pray for her recovery," he said. - NST
