PAS has renewed its call for a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to investigate allegations of a corporate mafia operating within the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari stressed that the issue is serious, involving claims of undue influence and possible abuse of power in enforcement institutions.
“This issue is no longer a small matter; it involves allegations of corporate mafia influence and possible abuse of power within enforcement institutions. That is why PAS consistently maintains that a comprehensive investigation must be conducted, and in PAS’s view, the RCI is the appropriate path,” he said on Friday (April 17).
Bloomberg previously reported that business networks and MACC officers allegedly used raids to pressure executives into selling company shares. MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki denied the claims, urging reports to police.
PAS also expressed support for anti-corruption efforts, including demonstrations, and is considering participation in the upcoming “Tangkap Azam Baki” rally.
“PAS remains firm that any allegations involving abuse of power and integrity must be investigated transparently to avoid prolonged negative perceptions of national institutions,” he said.
Bersih chairman Faisal Aziz confirmed discussions with PAS leaders, noting the rally will focus on preventing any extension of Azam’s tenure, demanding RCI formation, and pushing for institutional reforms.
The event is planned under the Peaceful Assembly Act, with organisers pledging cooperation with police for safety and order. — Focus Malaysia
