‘Premature’ to lodge complaint over Kinrara land sale, says Wong Chen

The Subang MP says he will act if the facts show wrongdoing or poor accountability.

PETALING JAYA:
Subang MP Wong Chen says it will be “wrong and premature” for him to lodge a report over the sale of land near the Ayer Hitam Forest Reserve in Kinrara until the Selangor government discloses the full facts and figures regarding the transactions.

Responding to a call by Selangor executive councillor Ng Sze Han to lodge a report with the aithorities if he suspects wrongdoing over the land sale, Wong said it would not be proper for him or anyone to act until “everyone can analyse the facts”.

“If and when the facts are finally disclosed by the Selangor government, and if the facts show wrongdoing or poor accountability, I will personally file a report (with) the authorities,” the PKR MP said in a Facebook post this morning.

Yesterday, Ng, the Kinrara assemblyman, asked Wong to be patient, saying that as a seasoned politician, he should “know what to do”.

He also said the menteri besar would address the matter at the upcoming state assembly meeting.

Wong had criticised the Selangor government for failing to respond to multiple letters regarding the sale of about 68.4ha of land near the Ayer Hitam Forest Reserve.

He said the issue centred on transparency, including the purpose and price of the land sale to a developer.

He said he had sent three formal letters since December seeking clarification on the sale of the land, which is marked for development, but received no official reply.

In his Facebook post, Wong thanked Ng for saying that he supported transparency.

He said the land in question was a Selangor government matter, and under Ng’s responsibility and scope of work as the Kinrara assemblyman.

He said more than 7,000 Kinrara residents had signed a petition asking his office to intervene and to ask the Selangor government for facts, figures, and full transparency on the land transactions.

“Even though land matters are not under my scope of work as an MP, I decided to pursue the matter on the residents’ behalf and have written three official letters to the (state) government asking for full disclosure.

“To date, the Selangor government has not replied to my official letters. The (state) government by not replying to my official letters is not practising the highest standards of transparency.

“I am asking for facts and figures. I am fighting for transparency and accountability, for my constituents,” he said. - FMT
