PETALING JAYA:
The Selangor executive councillor for religious affairs, Fahmi Ngah, has condemned as “irresponsible” a social media post featuring an image of a pig in royal attire, which is believed to be aimed at the Sultan of Selangor.

Fahmi said any attempt to smear the image of the royal institution was both “regrettable and unacceptable”. He said the use of a fake social media account “is also a cowardly act that can cause tension in a multiracial and multireligious society”.

Fahmi urged the police to immediately investigate the matter and take action against those involved. He also urged the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to monitor and block such insulting content.

“Given our country’s plural makeup, any action that could disrupt harmony and unity must be rejected. We are all responsible for maintaining ties among the different races and ensuring that peace prevails.”

Earlier today, state executive councillor Ng Sze Han also condemned the social media post, saying it was disrespectful to compare any person to an animal. He also called on the police to take action.

The issue of pig farming in Selangor has been at the centre of public debate, after Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah said in February he did not consent to pig farming being conducted in any district in the state.

This week, Seri Kembangan assemblyman Wong Siew Ki stood by her call for Selangor to consider modern, closed-system pig farming. Opposition assemblymen then accused her of going against the sultan’s wishes. - FMT
