Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamid will meet Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to discuss the issue regarding the administration of the Negeri Sembilan government.
Zahid, who is also the deputy prime minister, said the meeting will, among other things, discuss the action of the 14 BN state assemblypersons who withdrew their support for the state government led by Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun.
Zahid said the meeting with Pakatan Harapan president Anwar could be held at any time.
"I need to meet him (Anwar), and he needs to meet me,” he told reporters when asked about the issue involving the 14 state assemblypersons in the Negeri Sembilan government administration.
Zahid further said he would also meet all the state assemblypersons involved to obtain further explanation from them regarding the matter.
"I have ample time for them (BN state assemblypersons), and they can meet me at any time, either today or after this,” he said after meeting senior editors of media agencies in Kuala Lumpur today.
National leadership to review decision
According to him, the Umno and BN leadership at the national level will review the decision made by the 14 state assemblypersons and study the political implications of their action.
Earlier today, all 14 Negeri Sembilan assemblypersons from Umno and BN unanimously withdrew their support for Aminuddin.
They cited an ongoing leadership crisis, and an official notification regarding the matter would be sent to the speaker and the secretary of the state legislative assembly.
Aminuddin, at a press conference this afternoon, said he has been decreed by the state ruler, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, to continue carrying out his duties as head of the state government and that the state administration would therefore continue to function as usual to safeguard the interests of the people.
Meanwhile, asked if the issue would jeopardise the stability of the unity government at the national level, Zahid said the overall impact of the action would be scrutinised in depth, and that it would be referred to and decided by Umno's supreme council and political bureau.
"We must understand the customary law practised in the state, and the Umno state assemblypersons in Negeri Sembilan made their own decision.
"Umno and BN leadership at the national level will examine the decision, as well as the political implications that could arise from their announcement,” he said.
On Perikatan Nasional's intention and readiness to cooperate with Umno to form a new state government, Zahid said that in the political arena, various parties would find ways and opportunities to secure their continued survival and positions.
Earlier, Zahid, together with the Umno leadership, held a meeting with the senior editors of media agencies in conjunction with the 80th Umno anniversary celebration.
