India’s own Tejas light fighter jet on show at Lima

NEW DELHI: India is sending two indigenously-developed Tejas light combat aircraft as well as a navy corvette to take part in the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (Lima 2019) which begins on Tuesday.
The participation of the Indian military assets will provide an opportunity for Indian Air Force officers to interact with their counterparts in the Royal Malaysian Air Force, the Indian defence ministry said in a statement.
“This will serve as a foundation for any future interaction with the Malaysian air force. It will also provide an opportunity to RMAF to assess the capabilities of the light combat aircraft,” it said.
The two Tejas planes are expected to take part in aerobatic displays as India looks to impress potential foreign customers for the aircraft.
India’s Lima participation includes the anti-submarine warfare corvette INS Kadmatt.
Stall exhibits will be put up by Tejas’ manufacturers Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), the Goa Shipyard Limited and parties in the BrahMos missile venture.
The Indian support team includes a C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft and an IL-76 plane along with 69 personnel, including 27 officers, and 11 people from Tejas-maker HAL. -FMT
