GEORGE TOWN: The cabinet will discuss a motion to be moved in the Dewan Rakyat soon to condemn Israel’s attack on a Palestinian enclave of the Gaza Strip on Monday.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mujahid Yusof Rawa said the situation at the Gaza Strip was worrying.
Reuters reported Israel had launched air strikes on Gaza in response to a Hamas rocket attack on Monday. An Egypt-brokered truce has since been reached between both parties.
“We hope that Israel would respect the United Nations decision that Gaza is rightfully owned by Palestine. Our stand on Gaza is clear, which is the occupation and colonialism by Israel on Gaza must stop.
“We will discuss a motion to condemn Israel similar to the one carried out in 2012,” Mujahid said at the Al Malik Khalid Mosque at Universiti Sains Malaysia here today.
On Nov 19, 2012, Parliament passed a resolution to condemn Israeli attacks on Gaza and offered its unwavering support for the Palestinians.
It also urged the UN Security Council to fulfil its responsibility and hold Israel accountable for crimes committed against the Palestinians.
Mujahid also said a national-level Yasin recitation will be held on April 4 to remember those being oppressed in Palestine and to protect the holy sites of Al Quds and Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Recent reports said tensions at Al-Aqsa Mosque had spiked after Israel closed several entry points to the mosque and banned Muslim worshipers from entering, and arrested clerics and residents of Palestinian origin. - FMT
