The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has yet to receive resignation letters from its opposition members, says its deputy chairperson Wong Kah Woh.
This was despite three opposition MPs announcing on Monday that they were resigning from the committee until the chairperson position is returned to the opposition.
As of last night, we have yet to receive the resignation letters from the three members.
“Even if they were to resign, the PAC would still have nine more members which is enough (for) quorum to proceed with meetings,” he told journalists at the Parliament lobby today.
The three opposition lawmakers who announced their resignation on Monday were BN’s Parit Sulong MP Noraini Ahmad and Jasin MP Ahmad Hamzah, as well as PAS’ Takiyuddin Hassan.
Another opposition lawmaker in the PAC, Betong MP Robert Lawson Chuat from the Gabungan Parti Sarawak, did not join them.
Beluran MP Ronald Kiandee was appointed in August last year as the opposition’s representative to head the PAC.
However, in March this year, Kiandee defected from Umno to Bersatu.
The opposition has since demanded that Kiandee resign to make way for a new PAC chairperson.
Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is also Bersatu chairperson, had asked Kiandee to retain his position.
However, Mahathir said he was reconsidering after protests by Harapan MPs.
