PETALING JAYA: Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar has assured the public that Hospital Sultanah Aminah in Johor Bahru will be repaired after a meeting with Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad today.
“This includes upgrading of electrical wiring works for the 70-year-old main building of the hospital which will begin next year.
“The former Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where the tragic fire took place in October 2016 will also be repaired and refurbished,” the Johor ruler said in a post on his Facebook page.
The 2016 fire claimed six lives and damaged the ICU ward and other parts of the hospital.
During a visit to the hospital on Monday, Johor crown prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim had said he was disappointed with the lack of progress in repairing the hospital.
The sultan, who also discussed the Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Centre in Iskandar Puteri with Dzulkefly, said the Asian American Medical Group (AAMG), which was leading the project, had requested the minister for more cancer experts to offer improved service to patients.
Previous reports had stated that the cancer centre, which will have a built-up area of about 14,000 sq metres, was expected to commence operations by the end of 2020.
“I reminded the minister that there is a dire need for another hospital in Johor Bahru,” said Sultan Ibrahim.
“I want my subjects in Johor to enjoy improved public health services.” - FMT
