Armed forces denies troops bombarded with urine, forcing them to don helmets

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | The armed forces has denied that soldiers were forced to wear helmets instead of berets after vexed residents placed under total lockdown rained projectiles on them.
Chief General Affendi Buang said there were no incidents of plastic bags filled with urine being thrown at the soldiers by the affected migrants.
“The armed forces only wears helmets in places under the enhanced movement control order (MCO) whereas in other places, it is normal (soldiers don berets),” he told Bernama.
However, the report was based on a viral social media message claiming that the incident took place at Selangor Mansion, one of three buildings in Kuala Lumpur under the enhanced MCO.
Earlier, Sinar Harian reported that similar incidents also took place at the Malaysian Mansion and Menara City One buildings. All three buildings have a high concentration of migrants.
Quoting an unnamed source, the report said the projectiles included rubbish and sometimes plastic bags with urine.
Sinar Harian said this occurred during the early days of the lockdown, possibly as a sign of protest by the occupants over their inability to obtain food.
"The soldiers aren't wearing helmets for fun. When they are manning checkpoints on the streets, you don't see them wearing helmets.
"They are wearing helmets (at the apartments) because people are throwing objects, including garlic. We can't identify where it's being thrown from," said the unnamed source.
The report said the projectiles eventually became less frequent after the occupants accepted their fate and food supply was sorted out.
"We must appreciate the sacrifices made by our frontliners. They have to face this situation.
“I hope people will follow instructions set by the government," said the source.
The buildings were placed under the enhanced MCO after recording a high number of Covid-19 positive cases. - Mkini
