Arthouse raises over RM7,000 for artists affected by MCO

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | Arthouse gallery Rumah Seni Selangor (Russel) has raised over RM7,000 so far in their Seni-Kov fundraising online gallery where people can view and purchase artworks from local artists.
There are about 28 artworks featured from 16 local artists such as Ahmad Fuad Osman and Haris Abadi whose artwork of frontliners dressed in personal protective equipment (PPE) posed like the Tugu Negara had earlier gone viral on social media.
“Some of the proceeds will go to Tabung Karyawan Seni Rupa Russel and the rest of the sales will go to the artists themselves to help them through these hard times,” said Russel curator Alina Abdullah when contacted by Malaysiakini today.
The funds in the Tabung Karyawan Seni Rupa Russel, she added, will go to a few other artists who have been affected economically during the movement control order (MCO).
“We have identified a few artists in need (who have been) affected economically,” she said.
So far, they have managed to raise RM7,470 and Alina said many of the works, which are in limited supply, have been sold.
The online gallery can be accessed here
Russel is not the only one who has been raising funds through art during the MCO which began its third phase on April 15.
Prominent graphic designer Fahmi Reza (above) has also been running a campaign where he takes commissions for personalised portraits in exchange for a donation to any organisation under the #KitaJagaKita list.
Interested buyers would have to show proof of a RM50 donation for a simple sketch portrait while a RM250 donation would get them a customised portrait of their choosing. - Mkini
