UUM's Kamarul Zaman to reject PAS minister's job offer

Malaysiakini

Universiti Utara Malaysia professor Kamarul Zaman Yusoff said he has not accepted an offer to serve as Plantations and Commodities Minister Khairuddin Aman Razali's special functions officer.
Kamarul's (above) name is already listed in the post in the ministry's directory. However, when contacted, the professor said he has yet to accept the offer and will be rejecting it.
"That (directory listing) is a mistake. I am yet to accept (the offer). Since it has become an issue and is being viralled, I will officially write a rejection letter to the minister concerned today.
"I will not accept it as taking the post will compromise my ability to make independent comments on the political developments of our country," he told Malaysiakini.
The political scientist added that he was still with UUM and had no intention to make a career change.
According to the offer letter sighted by Malaysiakini, Khairuddin made the offer to Kamarul last month on March 10.
The professor clarified that he received the letter on March 17, the day before the movement control order (MCO) started, and thus saw no urgency in making a formal reply to the letter.
Kamarul is an ardent critic of Pakatan Harapan and DAP, whose writings are often published by PAS mouthpiece Harakah Daily.
Most recently he gained attention for criticising health expert Dr Musa Nordin as a Harapan lackey, after the latter pointed out that medical staff were running low on personal protective equipment (PPE) kits and thus faced the risk of Covid-19 exposure. - Mkini
