Malaysiakini

The Kedah government’s financial statements for the year ended Dec 31, 2018 were given opinions without reprimand by the Auditor-General’s report (Lkan) on the Kedah agencies 2018 financial statements and performance.
Auditor-General Nik Azman Nik Abdul Majid (above) said the auditing conducted found that the financial statements had shown a fair and accurate picture of the state government's financial position and accounting records had been maintained and updated.
“Overall, the balance of the consolidated fund at the end of 2018 for Kedah has decreased by RM79.35 million or 51.6 percent to RM74.57 million in 2018 compared to RM153.92 million in 2017.
“The state government recorded a deficit in the consolidated revenue account totalling RM642.64 million in 2018 compared to a deficit of RM593.26 million in 2017. The deficit is due to a decrease in revenue totalling RM73.75 million more than the RM4.62 million decrease in spending,” he said in a statement today.
He said that in 2018, the state government's public debt registered an increase of RM56.61 million or 2.1 percent to RM2.704 billion compared to RM2.648 billion in 2017.
According to Nik Azman, the increase was due to the receipt of loans from the federal government amounting to RM31.91 million and recognition of outstanding interest amounting to RM92.92 million in 2018.
“In addition, debt repayments have also been made in 2018 amounting to RM30.03 million,” he said.
Besides, he said the financial statements of the 18 state government agencies had also been audited and all were issued audit certificates without reprimand, while the financial statements of another five agencies had not been finalised.
The Auditor-General’s report on the state government financial statements and Kedah state agency financial performance 2018 and on the Kedah state department's activities management year 2018 series 2 were tabled at the Kedah state legislative assembly, today.
The public can view the report on the website.
